Afshan Shamas – Bridal Accessories

Hello readers,

If you thought choosing your wedding dress was exciting, then you’re in for a real treat as the next step would be to choose your bridal accessories. Ladies let me introduce you to Afshan Shamas – A jewellery and accessory designer that creates stunning hand crafted ethereal pieces, offering brides a touch of luxury with her contemporary, romantic, and vintage inspired accessories. Whether you are searching for a tiara, headband, earnings or even something for your bridesmaids, her collection is guaranteed to make you shine on your special day.

I first stumbled across Afshan Shamas’s beautiful collection at the Wedding Fair in Excel, I met the lovely owner Afshan her self, she talked me through her inspirations and concept.

Q – What inspired you to start Afshan Shamas?

Afshan: I have always been very creative, from a very young again in fact. Whilst working in the City,  I attended a course for couture dress making, but found that I was more driven towards embellishing the dresses.  Totally self-taught, I had a go at hand crafting beaded flowers, when my interest in creating accessories was born.

Many of Afshan’s collections have been featured on high-end fashion magazines such as the Cosmopolitan, and Asiana. Her designs are not catwalk shy as they also appeared in the Asian Bridal Show 2015. Each item is created at her studio in London, with care and precision to exceed all expectations, demonstrating the highest level of craftsmanship and couture skills.

Q- What is your favourite piece from your latest collection?

Afshan: I love all the pieces that I make, it’s difficult to select one as each piece offers a different look for the bride.

Afshan’s Bridal collection starts from a rough sketch on paper, to a myriad of Swarovski crystals, rhinestones, pearls and semi-precious stones that are carefully selected to create truly exquisite bespoke designs that reflect the individuality of the bride.

There were so many beautiful designs on display, I found it difficult to choose my favourite, so I asked Afshan if brides could customise pieces, i.e. if you liked a certain style but required a different colour. Ladies you are in luck! I was told that each and every piece is in actual fact a sample of what can be created. Therefore a completely new design or even a bespoke version of an existing piece can be created to suite the look of the bride. The colour of crystals, stones and wire colour can be altered too.

Q- Seeing as your products are made to order, how long would it take to deliver a piece?

Afshan: I have created pieces with only 3 days notice before, so if an urgent piece is required then we welcome the challenge. Otherwise we allow 4 – 6 weeks depending on the wedding date.

Q-What would you say is this seasons most popular bridal trend when it comes to accessories?

Afshan: Presently tiaras are very en vogue.  Equally popular are garlands and hair vines for the bride aiming for a more relaxed bohemian look.

Q-What accessory would you recommend for flower girls?

Afshan: There can be such pretty accessories for flower girls.  I am a particular fan of hair garlands, I feel little girls can pull them off beautifully.   I create some with flowers nestled amongst Swarovski crystals and beads, with cascading ribbons, to other garlands that are made of crystals and stones, that shimmer in the hair.  There really is so much choice available, but again the look should work in harmony with the bride and the theme.

Q- What advice would you give future brides?

Afshan: Once the dress has been decided, then I suggest brides to try on an array of accessories.  Often a bride will visit me with a particular look in mind, but surprisingly will walk away with an accessory completely different in style.  In addition a hair adornment can be the deciding factor for the hair style.  If a delicate hair accessory is to be worn a necklace and earrings can be in play, otherwise if a statement hair adornment is to be worn, then it can be beautifully finished with a cuff or bracelet and delicate drop or stud earrings.  When my brides visit I always advice them on the most suited accessories as they play an important part in completing the final look, working in harmony with the dress and not detracting the attention from it.

So ladies, if you are looking for custom bespoke accessories on your wedding day look no further. Thank you Afshan for creating these beautiful bridal masterpieces, as well as taking your time to answer my questions.
